Council spokesperson Brendan Anstiss said the council used to have about 70 different brands and that was confusing for people.

Mr Anstiss said the logo would stay the same, but the council's publications, website and signage would have a new "vibrant" look.

"With a number of new council facilities coming on board and the introduction soon of new online services, it made sense to do this project now," he said.

The project cost ratepayers $54,000 over two years, which included the cost of paying experts to train council staff in "developing the new identity".

Mr Anstiss said the change might seem frivolous but it was part of an ongoing culture change within the organisation.

"We want to get rid of the jargon and use everyday language that people understand and can relate to," he said.
