Police have confirmed a gun was fired at Ōtaki Beach on the Kāpiti Coast north of Wellington this afternoon.

Officers were called to the beach over a firearms incident about 1pm, police said.
There were no injuries.
They said the people involved were known to one another and one person is now in custody.
Atkinson Avenue was cordoned off.
Police said they wanted to reassure the public there were no current safety concerns.
