Part of the Coastal Highway near Mapua, west of Nelson, has been closed after two cars crashed and caught fire early this morning.

Police confirmed before 10am that a person had died after the crash on The Coastal Highway, State Highway 60, about 2am.
They said both cars caught fire, and the people in the other vehicle were treated by ambulance.
The highway was closed between Apple Valley Road and Gardner Valley Road this morning.
