A person is dead after a car struck a horse in eastern Bay of Plenty last night.

Police say they were called to the scene on Te Teko Rd near Edgecumbe late last night.
A car had struck a horse and the driver, who was the only person in the vehicle, died at the scene.
Te Teko Rd remains closed between Okaahu and Powell roads this morning while the Serious Crash Unit investigates.
