Storm-slab avalanches big enough to kill, injure or bury a person were sighted yesterday.
Some debris had come down as low as 1200 metres.
There is also an alert for heightened avalanche conditions in high alpine areas at Mt Hutt and the Craigieburn Range.
The review of the management plan for Aoraki/Mt Cook National Park is underway again, after it was put on hold following a Supreme Court decision.
