Police say a pedestrian hit by a car in South Auckland has now been identified after an appeal for information about his identity.
Emergency services were called to the scene on Marne Road in Papakura at about 10.30pm yesterday.
This morning police said the man was in Middlemore Hospital in a critical condition with life-threatening injuries, and released a description of him hoping to find his relatives.
However, they are now in contact with his next-of-kin.
The crash is being investigated and the driver of the vehicle has been assisting with enquiries.
