A person has died after a three-car-crash in Canterbury's Hurunui District and another person was killed in a crash near Whanganui.
The police say the first crash happened around midday in Weka Pass, on State Highway 7 near Waikari.
Three vehicles were involved and the road north of Loop Road was closed for several hours.
SH7 fully reopened after 6pm, Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency said on Twitter.

A person also died following a crash earlier today on SH3, Kai Iwi, near Whanganui, police say.
Emergency services were alerted to the crash involving a car and a truck at around 12.40pm.
The road was closed and a diversion was in place. It has since reopened.

Meanwhile, WorkSafe is investigating an incident near Raes Junction in Central Otago, this morning.
A WorkSafe spokesperson said it is understood a truck crashed, leaving the driver with serious injuries.
The spokesperson said WorkSafe would not be providing any further details.
