Police are searching for a 27-year-old who has served a sentence for beating a man unconscious at a Dunedin petrol station.
They say John-Boy Rakete has breached his release conditions and should not be approached.
Rakete was jailed for two years for the 2018 assault which left a 43-year-old man in a vegetative state.
Rakete punched the man causing him to smash his head as he fell.
As he lay convulsing, Rakete poured a soft drink over his face.
The man died 14 months later, but the law at the time of the attack prevented the police from laying further charges.
Police say Rakete was in South Dunedin yesterday but by now could be in Auckland.
Anyone with information on Rakete's whereabouts is asked to call police on 111 or anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
