Fire crews are racing to put out a large blaze near the Waipori River south of Dunedin.
Four helicopters and five crews have been battling the 50 hectare fire just west of the settlement of Berwick since 1.20pm.
A spokesperson said it was burning through scrubland and tussock, and no properties were at risk at this stage.
He said firefighters were up against southwest winds but they hoped to have it contained later today.
