Thousands wake up to light earthquake south of North Island

A light 4.6 magnitude earthquake was reported about 30km west of Paraparaumu.

According to GeoNet the quake happened at 3.51am and at a depth of 33km.

There were nearly 6000 reports of the shake being felt.
