One person has died in a helicopter crash in Otago.
The helicopter was was flying from Milton to Alexandra and was reported overdue at 5.30am.
A Rescue Co-ordination Centre spokesperson said another helicopter was sent from Dunedin and located the missing helicopter at 7.30am at Deep Creek, 50km west of Dunedin.
The pilot, who was the only person on board, did not survive the crash.
A police spokesperson said they were notified about 6.30am.
Police and the Civil Aviation Authority were en route to the crash site.
RNZ contacted the helicopter company, but the owner did not wish to comment at this time.
The Transport Accident Investigation Commission is investigating the crash.
Police said the commission was leading the investigation, though officers would provide assistance as needed.
