Eight people injured after two cars collide near Christchurch

Eight people were injured in a single road crash in Canterbury last night.

Three were hospitalised with moderate injuries after two vehicles collided in Christchurch.

Five others were treated at the scene by ambulance staff.

The crash happened near the intersection of Robinsons and Ellesmere roads, just after 8pm.

Meanwhile, the holiday road toll stands at three fatalities.

The driver of a car died at the scene of a crash on the SH1/Taieri Plains Highway, Waihola, in Otago yesterday.

Another person died following a crash involving a motorcycle at the intersection of Broadley Downs and Gordonton Road, Gordonton, in Waikato, also yesterday.

The motorcyclist died at the scene.

On Christmas Eve, one person died in a two-car crash south of Taupō.
