The police dive squad is joining in the search for a swimmer missing in the Waikato River.

Emergency services were called about 6pm yesterday after the person disappeared.
The search is continuing today at the section of the river that runs through the Hamilton Gardens.
A police spokesperson said this section of the gardens is closed to the public while the search is being carried out.
A Westpac Rescue Helicopter crew did not find any sign of the person last night, and searches by boat and jet ski downriver towards Claudelands Bridge continued until nightfall.
