A central Wellington street that was closed after a pedestrian died at the scene of the car crash has been reopened.

The incident on Dixon Street, Te Aro was reported to police about 3.30am and the person died at the scene.
An investigation into the cause of the crash is now underway and police have asked for any witnesses to come forward.
Dixon Street, between Taranaki Street and Cuba Street, was closed while a scene examination took place, but has now reopened.
