This year's Anzac Day dawn service at Auckland Museum is open to the public thanks to the orange Covid-protection setting.

RSA president BJ Clark said although people can attend ceremonies in Auckland and Wellington, some may prefer not to due to the Omicron outbreak.

He said those New Zealanders can still make an effort to keep the Anzac spirit alive by commemorating in different ways across the day instead of attending the dawn service.

"Around the country there are a lot of Cenotaphs that don't actually see or are never visited. It would be wonderful if people could go down to their local Cenotaphs and lay down a poppy there," BJ Clark said.

He said people should still check with their local RSAs to find out if there is a service in their area.

*Correction: Please note that this story originally said that the Anzac service at the Auckland Museum was invitation only, this is incorrect and the public are welcome, but it is invitation-only for dignitaries.
