Man charged with injuring police officer in Manukau hit-and-run

A former reality TV star accused of seriously injuring a police officer in Auckland last night has been granted name suppression.

The police officer was hit by a car as they laid road spikes to try to stop the vehicle.

The man accused is charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, failing to stop a motor vehicle, and unlawful taking of a motor vehicle.

He was not able to appear in the Manukau District Court this afternoon as he is still in hospital.

The court was told the man is suffering severe drug and alcohol addictions.

The man was remanded without plea to appear in the Manukau District Court on 28 November.
