A severe thunderstorm in Auckland has dissipated, but not before causing havoc.
Emergency services responded to more than 50 weather-related incidents from Hatfields Beach to Manukau this evening.
The storm left fallen trees, surface flooding, and property damage after heavy rain and hail battered the region.
MetService has since rescinded its severe thunderstorm warning and said the worst is over.
As of 9pm, many of Metservice's weather warnings had been removed.
However, a heavy rain watch from 1am on Sunday for the Bay of Plenty area, east of Whakatane, remained in place.
A period of heavy rain with potential thunderstorms was expected, MetService said.
In the South Island, MetService had issued a heavy rain warning for Canterbury from 8pm.
"Expect 60 to 90 millimetres of rain to accumulate about eastern parts of the High Country and foothills south of the Rangitata River, and 20 to 60 mm elsewhere," MetService said.
"These amounts are in addition to the rain that has already fallen today."
In Dunedin, a heavy rain watch had been issued - with heavy rain expected until 1am on Sunday morning.
