Fiji's Parliament meets to decide on new PM

Fiji's MPs have gathered at Parliament to elect a new prime minister.

After two hours of police questioning the People's Alliance Party leader, Sitiveni Rabuka, was realeased without charge. He urged his supporters to "remain calm" as he drove away from the Criminal Investigations premises at Toorak in Suva. 16 December 2022

A decision is not expected until the end of the formalities of opening Parliament, including the swearing in of MPs and the election of a Speaker.

The Speaker will then call for nominations for Prime Minisrer.

The former Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka is expected to be elected and arrived at Parliament for the vote earlier this morning.

He earlier called for people to remain calm during the transfer of power from Frank Bainimarama who has been the countrys' Prime Minister for 15 years.
