A horse truck has rolled over on a section of State Highway 1 near Evansdale, north of Dunedin.
Police and emergency services are in attendance and two occupants of the vehicle have been taken to hospital via ambulance with moderate injuries.
Seven horses are on board and a vet has been called to assist with their recovery.
Police said the incident occurred at 6.11pm on the Waikouaiti Road-Waitati Road section of SH1.
Both lanes of the highway at the scene are closed and traffic would be diverted via Coast Road through Seacliff, they said, however this road was not suitable for heavy vehicles and truck drivers were asked to avoid the route.
Other motorists are also advised to delay their travel or to avoid the area.
