A second person has died following a crash in Westgate this afternoon, police say.
Police were alerted to the two-vehicle crash near the intersection of Fred Taylor Drive and Dunlop Road just after around 3.15pm.
One person died at the scene and another was critically injured, a police spokesperson said earlier.
The person was transferred to hospital but died shortly after arrival, police said in an update.
Diversions are in place and motorists are asked to delay travelling in the area if possible.
The Serious Crash Unit has also attended the crash scene.
Collision near Waitomo Caves injures 17
A car and a mini-bus have collided near Waitomo Caves injuring several people
It happened on State Highway 37, Waitomo Caves Road near Fullerton Road just after 2pm.
Police say 10 people have minor to moderate injuries and seven have minor injuries.
The road is blocked and detours are in place.
