An arborist has died after a work-related incident at Christchurch's Hagley Park on Monday morning.
Earlier, police described it as a serious incident and said emergency services were called to the park shortly before 10am.
An RNZ reporter at the scene said a large area had been cordoned off where a big tree appeared to have come down.
A person could be seen sitting on the ground being comforted by police.
In a joint statement, Christchurch City Council and TreeTech said their thoughts were with the family and friends of the arborist, who was a member of the specialist tree care team.
The death has been referred to WorkSafe and the coroner.
