A West Auckland home badly damaged by the January floods has been safely demolished.
Residents on Scenic Drive in Swanson had expressed concern about the red-stickered home that slipped towards the road after heavy rain on Tuesday night.
Sue, who lived down the road, said it had been an ongoing issue for months.
''I'd say this house has been changing its shape for about three or four weeks, we've seen one side of it being pushed forward, obviously from the back, from the slip coming down the back, but it's just progressed."
Auckland Council compliance manager Adrian Wilson said the council had been monitoring the site since January.
He said the house was not immediately demolished because of concerns that removing it would worsen the slip behind the property and potentially risk the safety of a demolition team, neighbouring properties or the road.
However, Wilson confirmed the council received technical advice Wednesday night which concluded that a controlled, managed demolition could take place.
This morning the home was successfully dismantled and Auckland Council said the demolition crew would return tomorrow to continue clearing the rubble.
It said the road has now re-opened with traffic management in place overnight and into tomorrow.
