Police have launched a homicide investigation after a man died at an address in Hastings overnight.
Officers were called to a house on Willowpark Road after reports a man had been assaulted.
But the victim died at the scene, police said.
A 59-year-old man was arrested at the address and was helping with enquiries.
A scene examination is being carried out and is expected to take several days.
Thunderstorms moving around the North Island are forecast to be moving towards southern Waikato at about 5pm.
