Person seriously injured in Upper Hutt, fatality in Manawatū in multiple crashes

A person has been seriously injured in a a two-vehicle crash on State Highway 2 in Upper Hutt.

The crash in Kaitoke near Marchant Road was reported about 5.15am on Tuesday.

One person was taken to hospital in a serious condition.The Serious Crash Unit has been advised.

State Highway 2 was blocked for several hours and police had advised motorists to take an alternative route.

The detour was via Paihiatua Track or Saddle Road and could add a long time to journeys, Waka Kotahi said.

The state highway reopened shortly after 9am and the Remutaka Hill was open to all traffic.

In Marlborough, a person has received minor injuries in a truck crash on State Highway 1 near Taimate Road.

No other vehicles were involved.

The crash was reported to police around 7am.

The road is blocked and drivers are advised to delay travel or take an alternate route.

Fatal crash in Manawatū

In a separate crash in Manawatū, one person has died.

Police said the single-vehicle crash happened on Rangiotu Road, near Te Awe Awe Road in Rangiotu around 3am.

"The Serious Crash Unit have attended the scene.

"The road is now reopening and inquiries into the circumstances of the crash are ongoing."
