A person has died and two others are seriously injured after a crash in northern Canterbury's Hurunui District.
Police said several vehicles were involved in the accident in Spotswood, just north of Cheviot, which happened at about 4pm on Tuesday.
St John said four ambulances and three helicopters were dispatched. One person was treated at the scene, and five taken to hospital.
Fire and Emergency said its crews helped rescue passengers trapped inside one of the vehicles.
