Severe thunderstorms expected for South Waikato, Matamata Piako, Waipā and Otorohanga

MetService has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for South Waikato, Matamata Piako, Waipā and Otorohanga.

Meanwhile a Severe Thunderstorm Watch remains in force for Waikato, Waitomo, Taumarunui, Bay of Plenty, Rotorua, Taupō and Taihape.

SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING ISSUED: TAUPŌ & WAIRAKEI

MetService says the thunderstorm is moving south and is expected to bring heavy rain and frequent lightning.

The severe thunderstorm warning is in place until 6.45pm.
