Police are continuing to search for a white BMW following a fatal attack in Stoke in Nelson.
James Whitikau Barton died after he was found with critical injuries at an Orchard Street property on Friday night.
Detective Inspector Lex Bruning says a homicide investigation is underway, with a team working to piece together the events leading up to Barton's death to identify those responsible.
Police presence in Motueka and Riwaka in recent days was linked to the investigation.
Officers want to locate a white BMW X5 station wagon with the registration BMW693.
Anyone who has seen the car is encouraged to report it to police via 105.
