Police say the person critically injured in a dog attack in Northland yesterday was a two-year-old child who was attacked by a family pet.
The toddler remains in hospital and police say they are not treating the incident as suspicious.
Police said the dog belonged to the family and lived at the house on Tara Road in Mangawhai.
It has since been seized by Animal Control and destroyed.
Police have completed a scene examination.
