Arthur's Pass, between Canterbury and the West Coast has reopened near the Waimakariri River bridge, after a crash.
Two vehicles were involved and there were indications of moderate to serious injuries, police said in a statement.
The crash happened about 4.20pm Sunday.
It was expected the section of SH73 would be closed "for some time", and motorists were asked to delay travelling on the route.
