A vehicle linked to a string of recent Auckland thefts was recovered by police on Sunday afternoon.

The vehicle was seen around 4.25pm on Te Irirangi Drive, Botany.

"It's alleged the vehicle involved is believed to be linked to at least $20,000 worth of theft incidents in recent weeks," Insp Rakana Cook said in a statement on Monday.

"The vehicle failed to stop when signalled to do so by police and our officers observed the vehicle driving in a continuously concerning manner, putting members of the public at risk on multiple occasions while travelling at speed."

Police opted against a pursuit. The vehicle was spotted shortly after on Thomas Rd, Flat Bush, turning into a dead-end street.

Police took the driver into custody "without further incident".

A 32-year-old man has been charged with failing to stop, dangerous driving and failing to give details. Further charges could follow, police said, calling the man's behaviour "incredibly dangerous".

"We cannot stress enough the concern we have for those choosing to put themselves and other road users in our community at risk," Cook said.

"It is incredibly lucky that once again no one, including those involved, were injured during this incident."
