About 230 homes are still without power in Coromandel and the Bay of Plenty, where earlier in the day more than 6000 properties were affected.

Powerco outages show power cuts mostly affecting Whangamatā.

But households in Tauranga, Waihi, Te Puke and Paeroa are also without power.

In Auckland, power has been restored to households in Muriwai after multiple cuts.

Earlier on Monday in Auckland, outages were widespread across Auckland's North Shore from Albany and Browns Bay, to Mairangi Bay and Long Bay.

And a large area in the region's northwest up to Kumeū and Woodhill, also woke up without power.

Power had now been restored, but provider Vector Electricity said it had not yet established the cause of the outage.
