A pedestrian died at the scene of a crash that closed part of a major Auckland road this afternoon.

The section of New North Road in the suburb of Mt Albert was closed for several hours due to the incident on Wednesday afternoon.
The incident occurred at about 4.50pm, with the road closed at the intersections with Mount Albert Road and McLean Street until 8pm.
Police said despite being provided medical assistance at the scene, the pedestrian died at the scene.
