A Porirua man has been sentenced to nearly nine years in prison for repeated sexual abuse, assault and threatening to kill his daughter over more than a decade.
He was also charged with the rape and assault of another family member.
The man was charged with more than 30 offences spanning a period of 11 years before his family cut contact with him.
The court was told the man sexually abused his daughter almost daily when she was between 11 and 16 years old.
He threatened to kill his daughter if she told anyone about the abuse when she was as young as ten years old.
The escalating pattern of abuse occurred at the family home.
As the young woman grew older and began to resist his advances and physical contact the man grew more controlling and violent.
The summary of facts in the case said the man would treat her more like his partner than his daughter and would become jealous if she spent time alone with other men.
He worked to control her social contacts and insisted she remained hidden when visitors were at the home.
The man threatened violence towards his daughter and her mother and when the young woman left school and looked for work he oversaw which jobs she was allowed to do.
He sought to control her contact with men in the workplaces.
The man pleaded guilty and was sentenced to eight years and five months imprisonment last week.
