One person has been killed in a crash south of Greymouth.
The two vehicle crash in Paroa was reported just after 4pm on Thursday, a police spokesperson said.
"Despite the best efforts of emergency services, the person died at the scene," they said.
Part of State Highway 6 at Paroa was closed for the Serious Crash Unit to carry out a scene examination.
NZTA said the highway was closed near the intersection of Clough Road.
A detour was operating for both north and south-bound traffic, but they asked motorists to plan for delays.
