One person has died following a house fire in Hokitika on Sunday night.
Police say they were notified of the fire on Hoffman Street at 9.10pm.
The person was in the house at the time of the fire, and was found unresponsive by emergency services.
The fire was being treated as unexplained and was being investigated.
A scene guard was put in place overnight and further enquiries would be undertaken today to determine the cause of the fire.
Meanwhile, Fire and Emergency New Zealand (FENZ) said crews also responded to a house fire in Waihopai Valley in Marlborough about 12.40am and this was also being investigated.
There were no people in that property, FENZ said.
