The women's K4 500 team are through to the final after easily winning their heat.
Dame Lisa Carrington, Aotearoa's most decorated Olympian, Alicia Hoskin, and Aimee Fisher and Lucy Matehaere in action led from the beginning and never looked back.
New Zealand's men's team in the K4 500m heats has come fourth, meaning they'll have to race again in the quarter finals to have a chance to continue.
In other highlights coming up, first-time Olympian and middle-distance runner Maia Ramsden will be competing in round one of the 1500m at 8.05pm.
Climber Julian David, who won the men's and women's titles at the IFSC sport climbing oceania qualifier in Melbourne last November, is set for the seeding round at 11pm.
