Waterways in Kāpiti and Porirua are now the biggest concerns for flooding in the lower North Island, with more heavy rain forecast there between 3-5pm.

The Wellington Region Emergency Management Office said it was closely monitoring the Porirua Stream, Ōtaki River, Waikanae River, Waitohu Stream north of Ōtaki and Mangaone Stream near Te Horo.

There have already been reports of flooding across Hutt City, Featherston, Silverstream, Trentham, Porirua, Waiwhetu, Whitby, Stokes Valley and Naenae on Monday.

Meanwhile, a slip is blocking off a community of about 50 homes in Greymouth.
