A child was hit by a car and died in a driveway in Taupiri on Saturday, police say.
Police said the fatal incident happened on Te Putu Street in the Waikato town.
Emergency services were called at 12pm on Saturday.
"The child was located in a critical condition and CPR was commenced.
"Sadly the child was unable to be revived and died at the scene."
A scene examination was conducted by the Serious Crash Unit and police enquiries into the circumstances were ongoing.
