Covid-19 update: 1012 new cases, two further deaths

The number of new cases of Covid-19 in New Zealand has increased since last week while the number of deaths attributed to the virus has dropped.

There were 1012 new cases reported over the week to Sunday, and two further deaths attributed to the virus.

Of the new cases, 641 were reinfections.

There were 52 people in hospital, with none in intensive care.

The highest number of new cases were in Waitematā (170), followed by Canterbury with 152.

The previous week there were 728 new cases and three further deaths attributed to the virus.

So far, 4426 deaths in New Zealand had been attributed to the virus, which has killed millions worldwide since its emergence in 2019.
