Auckland Council has passed a motion to report on advice to find solutions to storm-damaged council land affecting private properties.

A group of West Auckland residents, under the Stickered Area Residents (STAR) group, presented to the Transport, Resilience and Infrastructure Committee on Thursday morning.

They said there were more than 60 households adjacent to Auckland Council-owned land at risk from unresolved slips left by last year's floods.

The land was managed by Auckland Transport, which was only obligated to maintain the existing road corridor - not surrounding land.

The council amended a longer motion put forward by Councillor Ken Turner to seek new funding, or reallocate funding, to repair the damage.

He said the government was clear - to both residents and the council - that new funding was not available to repair the land, but funding could be reallocated from pots already ring-fenced for storm repair.

Council instead voted unanimously for a report to be brought back in November with "definitive advice on solutions to issues raised by the STAR group, and any associated financial impacts and the potential precedents".
