State Highway 1 is closed near Waihola, between Dunedin and Milton, following a serious crash this afternoon.
Police said they were notified of the single-vehicle crash at around 2.40pm.
St John said two people were injured - one in a serious condition was airlifed to Dunedin hospital, and another in a moderate condition was taken by ambulance.
Police said the road remains closed and drivers should avoid the area.
