Punk fashion takes on Te Papa in Vivienne Westwood show

The Vivienne Westwood and Jewellery exhibition will open at Te Papa tomorrow, kicking off a global tour on the renowned British fashion house.

The exhibition is designed and curated by the house of Vivienne Westwood and produced by Nomad Exhibitions.

Westwood, who died in 2022, was best known for being one of the pioneers of punk fashion.

Over 550 pieces of jewellery and over 15 complete ensembles and garments are on display.

The exhibition spans a series of rooms, allowing visitors to journey through the decades of Westwood's career from the 1980s onwards.

Each room is curated with a selection of themed jewellery and an array of garments are also on display.

Wall prints, sound effects, and videos from the catwalk further enthral the viewer.

The pieces on display include the sex earrings worn by David Bowie at the 1996 Brit Awards, a diamond encrusted bone-shaped choker worn by Timothée Chalamet at the London premiere of his film Bones And All and the cherub earrings worn by Katy Perry at the King Charles coronation concert.

The exhibition runs from 17 Jan to 27 Apr 2025. Entry is $10 for children over five years old and $30 for adults.
