Five people have been taken to hospital after a crash that has closed SH2 near Waihi.
Police said emergency services received reports of the crash on State Highway 2 (SH2) near Tauranga Road, Waihi, Hauraki District. about 5.40pm.
Three people have been transported to hospital by helicopter and two others taken to hospital by road, police said.
Some were in critical condition but no further details could be confirmed.

SH2 is blocked and diversions are in place at the intersections of SH2, Trig Road South and Waihi Beach Road.
Motorists are advised to take the alternative route.
