A Canterbury man has been arrested and charged after video footage surfaced of him allegedly attacking a German Shepherd.
Police confirmed they carried out a search warrant at a Rolleston property earlier this week, after a video was posted to a community page on social media.
The man has been charged with animal cruelty.
"Police can reassure the public that the dog is safe and a man has been arrested and charged with animal cruelty," a spokesperson said.
"We would like to thank members of the public for coming forward with information that led to this positive result.
"If you witness similar concerning behaviour, contact Police via 105 with as much information as possible, so we can assess and determine any next steps."
The man is due to appear in the Christchurch District Court on Friday.
