An emergency service response is underway at a beach in eastern Christchurch on Thursday following reports of a person missing in the water.
Police said it was responding to a "water-related incident" at Southshore.
"Further information will be released when we are in a position to do so."
A Coastguard spokesperson said it could not comment.
A person helping Coastguard told Stuff they were searching for a swimmer who had gone missing.
