A pedestrian has died following a car crash in Whakatāne, and police are appealing for information about what happened.
The car and pedestrian were at the intersection of State Highway 30 and Thornton Road, when the crash happened about 4pm on Thursday, police said in a statement.
"The pedestrian was transported to Waikato Hospital by helicopter in a critical condition, where they have since passed away this morning," they said Friday.
Investigators want to hear from anyone who witnessed or has dashcam footage of the crash or any information that may assist in our investigation.
