Two men have been arrested for a murder on Church Street, Ōpōtiki on Saturday morning.
Detective senior sergeant Paul Wilson said a 31-year-old Mongrel mob member was arrested and charged with murder, while a 25-year-old man was charged with assault.
He said both arrests were made on Sunday afternoon.
Early police said about six people were fighting in central Ōpōtiki before the man died of a suspected stab wound at the scene.
The gang member had been remanded in custody, set to re-appear in the Tauranga District Court on February 26.
The 25-year-old man was set to re-appear in the Whakatane District Court on February 12.
Police were not seeking anyone else in relation to the death.
