A man has been arrested following a string of burglaries of churches around the Canterbury region in the past week, in which a number of historical items were taken.
Police were investigating at least three recent break-ins of churches in Christchurch, Eyreton and Waimate.
They arrested a 35-year-old man near the Rakaia Bridge on Friday, and said a number of stolen items including chalices were recovered.
The man was scheduled to appear in the Christchurch District Court on Saturday.
