Emergency services have rescued three people and two dogs who were trapped in a cable car suspended above the river.
The occupants of a private cable car called emergency services at 5pm, saying they had become stuck.
Police said a report was made of a cable car breaking down across the river on Whanganui River Road.
Fire and Emergency has confirmed that all three people and the dogs have been rescued successfully, with no injuries.
