Rosalie Carey, one of the pioneers of theatre in New Zealand, has died at the age of 90.
Mrs Carey, who founded the Globe Theatre in Dunedin with her husband Patric in 1961, passed away at her Whangarei rest home on Wednesday.
As an actor she appeared in many television and theatrical roles, and she trained hundreds of young performers.
She was also a playwright, director and published author who continued writing until shortly before her death.
Mrs Carey recently received the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to theatre.
She is survived by two children and three grandchildren.
